Testing Morigana: A Modern Script Font for Web Design

I was working on a redesign for a boutique online store, and the first thing I noticed was the need for a more expressive typeface. The previous font felt too rigid, not matching the brand’s creative and fashion-forward identity. That’s when I came across Morigana, a modern script font that immediately caught my eye with its smooth curves and elegant feel.

Morigana has a brushed, stylish look that feels both contemporary and approachable. It’s not overly ornate, which makes it perfect for digital use where readability is key. I tested it in the hero section of the website, placing it over a full-screen image of a model wearing the latest collection. The result was striking—Morigana added just the right amount of flair without overwhelming the visual hierarchy.

One of the first things I checked was how Morigana performed on mobile screens. Since so much of the site traffic comes from phones, I needed a font that would remain legible at smaller sizes. I found that Morigana maintained its elegance even when scaled down, though I made sure to keep the line spacing generous to avoid any issues with text density.

For the header sections, I used Morigana as the main heading font. It worked well with a clean sans-serif font like Montserrat for body copy, creating a nice contrast between decorative and functional typography. This pairing helped guide the user’s eye naturally through the content, reinforcing the brand’s personality while maintaining a professional appearance.

Another place I experimented with Morigana was in call-to-action buttons. I wanted something that stood out but still felt inviting. Using a lighter weight of Morigana with a soft gradient overlay gave the buttons a subtle yet stylish edge. It wasn’t too flashy, which kept the focus on the action rather than the design itself.

When designing the product landing pages, I used Morigana for short phrases and promotional headlines. Its flowing curves gave the text a sense of movement, making it ideal for drawing attention to limited-time offers or new arrivals. I also tested it in image overlays for blog posts and found that it added a touch of sophistication without distracting from the visuals underneath.

Readability was a top priority, especially since the site targets a broad audience. I made sure to pair Morigana with a highly readable base font and avoided using it for long paragraphs. Instead, it became a decorative accent in headers, banners, and marketing graphics, ensuring that the overall layout remained accessible and easy to scan.

One of the best features of Morigana is its versatility. It works well in a variety of contexts—from a luxury fashion brand to a minimalist portfolio site. I’ve seen it used effectively in campaign landing pages, course sales pages, and even in digital ads. Its modern aesthetic fits well with editorial designs and can be adapted to suit different industries and brand tones.

Before finalizing the font choice, I checked the available styles and weights. Morigana offered enough variation to meet the project’s needs, including alternate characters that added a unique touch to logos and branding elements. The webfont availability was seamless, and the licensing options were clear, which was important for ensuring compliance with commercial use requirements.

Font pairing played a big role in the final design. I paired Morigana with a clean sans serif for body text and a subtle serif for subheadings, creating a layered typographic system that felt cohesive and intentional. This approach helped maintain visual interest without sacrificing clarity or usability.

Overall, Morigana proved to be a valuable addition to the project. It brought a fresh, modern energy to the design while supporting the brand’s voice and values. Whether used in headers, banners, or decorative accents, it contributed to a more polished and engaging online experience.

If you’re looking for a script font that balances style with functionality, Morigana is definitely worth considering. It’s a great choice for anyone working on a creative project that needs a touch of elegance without compromising on readability or performance.
